Author: Bev Elle

Synopsis

Ticketing agent Jessamy Taylor has been in a dating slump exacerbated by moving her sickly mother into her home. The truth is she’s never gotten overthe quirky Dr. Griffin Sanderson whose Obsessive Compulsive Disorder drives hercrazy, despite his excellent bedside manner.

Fly Me to the Moon is a love song covered by many, the most memorable being Frank Sinatra. Griffin whistles this tune incessantly, but that’s just one of the many odd quirks Jessamy Taylor either loves or hates about him. Since their ill-fated love affair two years prior, she’s found no one to replace the good doctor.

A date with a self-absorbed jerk that goes awry for Jessamy somehow ends with her in Griffin’s arms. Will the changes he’s made be enough this time, or will secrets tear them apart?

 Excerpt
Chapter 2
Kyla rasped, “I-Is that Griffin petting a dog over there?”
Jessamy shielded her eyes with her hand and peered across the cul-de-sac. If she’d seen it first, she
might have choked on her lemonade, too. Griffin Sanderson was petting the
Fowlers’ dog. “Oh my God, he is!”
“Don’t they have like a gazillion germs or something? And what happened to his glasses?”
“Actually, some would argue that dogs are cleaner than humans. And Griffin got contacts.”
“Finally. You know, Jess, he’s looking kind of good, today. You might want to tap that again since he’s
had a makeover and all.”
Jessamy waved her off. “I couldn’t possibly.”
“Why not? The guy I see over there looks infinitely tappable.” Kyla set her drink on the table and folded her arms.
Jessamy sipped her lemonade. “He may look tappable today, but you didn’t have to experience what I did withhim as his girlfriend for two years. I should’ve called it quits after our Christmas trip to the Poconos, but I had fallen for him, and like so many misinformed women in history before me, I thought I could change him.”
“You’d think you two would’ve been great together, twin OCD and all. And I thought you said the trip to the Poconos was perfect.” Kyla said, air-quoting the word perfect.
“Everything was perfect up until that trip. We had so much in common. We both loved science fiction. We were both G.R.R. Martin geeks who watched the Game of Thrones show together and nitpicked how the show differed from the books. And even though I had the books on my kindle, he gifted me the hardbacks as a three-month anniversary present.” Jessamy smiled at the memory.
“I remember. You two were enough to make regular folks gag.”
“And you and Carter don’t—with your copious PDA?”
Kyla laughed. “But at least we don’t get all aroused over an episode of The Big Bang Theory.”
“Carter likes that show.”
“Not more than he likes me, though.” Kyla actually twirled her hair.
“Is he coming today?”
“Yeah, after he does his Saturday morning nine holes with his boss. Ugh!”
“Good, we’re going to need all the people we can get to eat up all this food.” Jessamy eyed the tables
balefully.
“Look!” Kyla said. “Griffin’s holding the Fowlers’ baby. Now doesn’t that make your ovaries want to explode?”
Jessamy turned her head slowly, knowing the sight would slay her. Griffin never held babies. She took it all in as if in slow motion. Mark was holding their toddler in place as Jenny was cleaning up the sticky Popsicle he was covered in, while Griffin was holding the four-month old. He cradled her a bit nervously at first, then he seemed to get his baby-holding legs under him and finally began to smile and talk to her.

Jessamy and Kyla could hear her baby giggle from where they stood. “Aww!” They said in tandem.

One destined meeting. It alters journalist, Charlise “Charlie” Carter’s course. When asked to work on a Republican candidate’s campaign, she’s unprepared for the intense reaction she has toward the young, handsome presidential hopeful, Colin McKenna. Unable to resist Charlie’s allure, McKenna succumbs to his desire and they find themselves exploring a passionate, physical relationship that is soon tested by not only their own secrets, but his political advisers.

EXCERPT

“So good. It’s too good . . .” he mumbles against my mouth. And it is. So intense and so good my toes curl as I wrap my legs around his backside. I’m close to overwhelmed, the feel of him buried in me, knowing I’m really here in this moment, and his voice whispering in my ear to hold on, don’t hold back, give me everything . . . I almost can’t hold on, falling deeply into every sensation and losing myself in them.

I’ve never done this with someone and felt connected in every possible way, not just physically, but emotionally. A rush, a warmth spreads out from my chest at the realization that this is my beginning—a spring in the middle of winter, the ending of a chapter and the start of another, with Colin as the central character. Right here, in his bed, clarity reigns as his mouth claims mine again, teasing out a moan so he can claim that too. He owns me. I would give him anything. Take it, take all of me, take everything and anything. And he does, wringing out every ounce of pleasure. He knows where to touch, how to extract the smallest whimper and the largest groan. I could never tire of being with him, with him over me and in me, pushing, pulling, driving and devouring until the ache becomes a need. A need so intense and all consuming, I begin taking from him. Calling out unabashedly to move faster, go deeper, push harder. Don’t stop, never stop, never stop making me feel this good and needy and so, so full. Please, I beg. Pleading with him, pleading for I don’t know what . . .

Pushing off of his shoulders, I fall to the bed and he follows, his head dipping to my nipple. Taking me into his mouth, he teases with his tongue and bites down, hard, only releasing me when I gasp and clutch his hair. But I don’t pull him away; I hold him in place. I want more. He does it again and this time I go a little wild, raking my fingers down his back and bucking my hips up to meet the increased pace of his.

Everything he’s doing is magnified in the pulse between my thighs. It started as a slow flutter when he first entered me, but it’s built into a steady cadence. I focus on the feeling of him. I’m climbing high, fast, and he’s coming with me. Throwing my head back, I relish in our connection, kneading my fingers into his back, his muscles flexing with control as he pushes me to a place I’ve never known, didn’t know existed.

I can see the moment when he loses it, loses himself as I have done. Gone is the controlled restraint and in its place is a wild abandon. Giving in to my demands, his hips thrust with a determined pace, driving forward, pushing harder until each strike elicits a guttural grunt from him and an exacting cry from me. Sweat pebbles on his brow, beading and rolling, dropping to my chest where it slides between my breasts. I watch, fascinated, as his eyes follow it down and the black of his pupils blur into the blue with a need so powerful it would scare me if I didn’t feel the exact same way.

My mouth finds his, licking and sucking and tasting. Who am I, but a needy, hungry woman begging for the only thing that can save me? Colin. Only him, it will always only be him. I give myself fully, joining him in the freedom to feel beyond good, beyond words.

“Don’t let me fall.” Sudden panic overtakes me as my body threatens to tumble from a cliff.

“I’ve got you, baby,” he whispers. “We’re going to fall together. Come with me.” The whisper turns to a demand, forcing me to hold on and together, we dive head first into an abyss of pleasure so deep and plentiful we drown in it, breathe it, and live through it.

Commitment to Love by Bev Elle
A preacher’s daughter is torn between passion and her faith convictions when she meets a handsome police officer who is a womanizing commitment-phobe with abandonment issues.

EXCERPT, Chapter 1, Commitment to Love

Alaina finally opened the door to acknowledge the policeman. She prepared herself mentally for the drill she’d perfected with Officer Padgett, but was surprised as he removed his cap, to see a much younger officer. In fact, this man was gorgeous. Had she taken a better look earlier, she might have hurried her Gigi off the phone sooner.

“Officer—” She eyed his nametag: N. Heath Stanton and wondered why he chose to conceal his first name. “—Stanton, how may I help you?” She registered bold sea-green eyes that regarded her with either intense interest or curiosity. She couldn’t decide which. Alaina also noted with a mental fist pump, the absence of a wedding ring.

He was about a foot taller than her five foot four-inch frame, sans the ambitious heels she wore. While not rock-star thin, she thought she spied sinewy muscle definition under his uniform blues. A shock of haphazard dark brown hair no longer hidden by the cap adorned his head.

“I’m Officer Heath Stanton, TPD. I’m looking for the director of the center.” He lacked the southern drawl she expected, his sexy voice more of a mid-western twang. He couldn’t be more than a few years older than her twenty-three, but his demeanor was all business at the moment.

“That would be me. Alaina Parker.” She offered a hand and they shared a firm shake.

The touch of his skin made her face grow warm. She crossed her arms over her chest and narrowed her eyes. A visit from a police officer other than Padgett, their liaison, could only mean one thing.  “What? Do I have another delinquent in TPD’s custody?” she asked.

”No, ma’am. I just wanted to come by and introduce myself. Captain Harrison assigned me to cover the property and surrounding community as the new liaison. Officer Padgett was reassigned.”

Alaina’s expression exhibited mild surprise. Her complaints had finally been taken seriously. She stepped aside and motioned for him to come in.

“Thanks, ma’am.”

“Unless protocol requires such decorum, please, call me Alaina. My grandmother is the only woman in my family who answers to Ma’am.” Alaina shook her head and grinned wider, shifting her weight onto one hip.

Officer Stanton loosened up a bit. “I’ll call you Alaina if you’ll call me Heath.”

His sun-kissed skin made him look almost angelic as he stood there, now giving her the once-over as well. All she knew is he had all the goods to replace that nameless, faceless dream man who seduced her in her sleep on a regular basis the past few weeks.

“All right, Heath and Alaina it is when the children aren’t around. If they learned our given names our authority would be thoroughly undermined.”

“We wouldn’t want that.”

“You have no idea how happy I am to see Officer Padgett replaced.” She lowered her voice in a conspiratorial fashion even though they were the only two people in the room. “That man was beyond non-responsive.”

“Since this is now my assignment, you can be sure I’ll be responsive.” Her candor may have been off-putting, as she noted an inflection in his tone.

Alaina was pleased her directness hadn’t rattled him—much. Something in his bearing clued her in that he could be former military. Although she was not usually attracted to uniforms like many of her girlfriends, she found herself drawn to Officer Stanton’s brooding good looks.

As I slip quietly out of the suite and rush toward the elevator, I can’t deny I’m feeling a little better about Vegas.

That is, until the elevator doors open.

Standing there, leaning against the stainless steel wall with a cocky smile on his face, is the one person I really didn’t want to see this weekend.
With a miserable groan, I step inside the elevator and furiously stab the button.

“Are you following me, Summers?”
“I’d follow your dimples anywhere, York.”
Ethan Summers is infuriatingly charming and handsome. Both assets have proven to be beneficial to his career and detrimental to mine.
“Well, these dimples just lifted Bradley Jones’ credit card numbers.”
“Impressive. Although, one might argue that a more superior con artist would be capable of accomplishing such a feat without showing a little skin. Really, Jenna, I’m disappointed.”
He rarely calls me by my first name. Last names have always been our thing.
“Were you watching me?”
“Every heterosexual man in the casino was watching your little performance. Nice legs, by the way.”
Crap.
“Not good,” I mutter.
“No, but I enjoyed it.”
Ethan grins as the elevator doors open. I don’t protest when he grabs me by the elbow and leads me toward the nearest exit. It’s not brightly lit, but there’s a very nice bouncer that Ethan greets by name who allows us to walk right out the door and into the starry Nevada night. He doesn’t let go of my arm as we hurry toward a black SUV.
“Why are you helping me?”
“You drugged a millionaire and stole his credit card info. I think it’s best we get you out of town.”
That doesn’t really answer my question, but I can’t argue with his logic.
Ethan opens the passenger door and helps me inside.
“Nice stilettos.”
I glare at him, and he shoots me a sexy smile before slamming my door.
It’s really too bad that I hate his guts.
Ethan Summers and I have crossed paths many times throughout the past couple years. It’s unavoidable, considering we’re two of the finest criminal minds in the world.
That’s what the news says, anyway.
“Let me guess,” Ethan says as he pulls the SUV out onto the highway. “You used Rohypnol on Jones?”
I roll my eyes. “I’m a thief, not a sexual predator.”
“Well, you obviously slipped something into his drink.”
“Sleeping pill.”
Ethan hums his disapproval. I can’t argue with him. Slipping Bradley a sedative is so amateur.
“I was desperate. The entire weekend has been a complete waste of time. When did the Viper install dome cams?”
“A few weeks ago. The casino’s hosting the U.S. Poker Championship next month. Ceiling cams are a requirement.”
“Super.”
“I know.”
“So, if you knew about the cameras, what were you doing at the casino?”
“Let’s just say a little birdie told me you were hitting the Viper tonight. I had a feeling you might need my assistance.”
“So you’ve been talking to Abby.”
He remains silent and keeps his eyes trained on the freeway, giving me the chance to study his profile. Ethan has a mop of unruly dark hair and deep blue eyes that make most girls go weak in the knees.
Not this girl. Nope.
“Like what you see?”
My face heats. I hate when he catches me ogling him.
“You’re an ass.”
He laughs. “Someday, Jenna, you’re going to stop fighting this attraction between us. I’m really looking forward to that.”

COMMITMENT TO LOVE

Commitment to Love is my offering in the PULSE POINT Anthology. The following is an excerpt from Chapter 4:

Virtual Cookie Exchange – Soft Gingerbread Cookies by Bev Elle #ASMSG #ChristmasCookies #Romance

Virtual Cookie Exchange Banner

I’m very stoked to participate in the Virtual Cookie Exchange along with a group of amazing authors. Every day between December 14-23 you get a delicious cookie recipe – and a chance to enter a giveaway for TWO $25 Amazon Gift Cards!

My protagonists in OBSIDIAN FAITH were orphaned at an early age, however, the parents at the group home and a volunteer family fell in love with Shanice and Trevor, who bonded long before the opportunity for them to be adopted came along. On holidays, the Baileys and the Kyles baked cookies, among other things, but one aroma that Shanice and Trevor equate with being part of the wonderful families they each had growing up was gingerbread cookies!

Excerpt

“You know what we should do, Trevor?”

“What?”

“We should adopt each other, since we don’t have a Mommy or Daddy.”

“Okay.” He grinned. “We can be like the two musketeers.”

Shanice looked confused. “What’s a musketeer?”

“They were like these special soldiers who guarded the king of France a long time ago. Their special motto, uh, saying, was ‘one for all and all for one.’”

She looked more confused. “And what does that mean?”

“They had each other’s back… looked out for each other.”

“Like we’re always going to do, right?” She said and gave him a big smile.

“Right.”

From that day forward, in Shanice’s eyes, Trevor could do no wrong. – OBSIDIAN FAITH, Chapter 1

I know Brenda Bailey and Elena Kyle would’ve made today’s recipe every Christmas for Shanice and Trevor, just as this author actually baked the ones that appear in this photo (shameless self-plug)!

Check out the recipe below!

Soft Gingerbread Cookies

SOFT GINGERBREAD COOKIES

Ingredients

  • 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 4 tablespoons white sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix together the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, then stir in the water and molasses.
  4. Gradually stir the sifted ingredients into the molasses mixture.
  5. Shape dough into 1″ (25mm) sized balls, and roll them in the remaining 4 tablespoons of sugar. (Use cookie cutters to make Christmas shapes if desired. If cookers are to be cut into shapes, the surface counter should be sprinkled with flour so when rolled, the dough doesn’t stick to the surface.)
  6. Place the cookies 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes in the preheated oven.
  8. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Decorate as you see fit.
  9. Store in an airtight container.
